Review for St Rita School for The Deaf, Cincinnati, OH, USA

Rating: 5 stars

St. Rita School has taught deaf/hard of hearing children for 95 years. For the past 10 years children with apraxia have been students. Apraxia of speech is a neurological disorder impairing nerual pathways making intelligible speech and legible hand writing very difficult and frustrating. Public schools generally are not equipped to handle these students because they require speech and paper/pencil as the primary forms of communication. St. Rita staff has developed a very unique curriculum highly individualized to aid students in overcoming the frustration of not being able to communicate clearly. Sign language is used in conjuction with speech therapy and is the primary communication vhehicle with all students and staff. This aids the not only in educational progress, but emotional and social development as well. The goal of the new non-profit is to become a national resource center for the education of children with communication disorders so we can make available the success the school has had with students with apraxia to other communities nationally.
