Review for Advocates For Home Education in Massachusetts Inc, Arlington, MA, USA
AHEM arrived on the scene as our kids were nearing the end of their homeschool experience and moving on to college, but in the light of our own experiences, and from all communications we have had with them, it is clear that this organization is a wonderful resource for any family considering or engaged in homeschooling in Massachusetts. They have assembled an invaluable database of how individual towns across the Commonwealth interact with homeschooling families, what documentation is required, etc. They carefully monitor any legislation that could impact homeschoolers and work constructively with legislators to assure that constitutional protections are maintained. They also organize cultural events, museum and theater trips, presentation, history tours, meetings with legislators, and social gatherings, including an alternative "prom", and college prep workshops. In short, through all of these efforts, they are enhancing the sense of community and enriching the experiences of homeschoolers throughout Massachusetts. This is an organization truly worth of support.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
email communications with the director, participation in surveys, sharing of homeschool resources, and awareness of their many outreach programs
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
encourage all homeschool families on Massachusetts to support and participate in their programs.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
their responsiveness and commitment to enhance and support homeschooling in Massachusetts
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
smart and thoughtful.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
provide more extensive programs that would help more families embark on one of the best adventures of their lives.
Ways to make it better...
I had heard about them sooner
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
staff time and funding. They work miracles with the resources they have, but could use more.
One thing I'd also say is that...
AHEM understands that homeschooling is not about isolation, but rather about community and engagement.
