Review for The Feline Rescue Association, Inc., Owings Mills, MD, USA
I moved to the Baltimore area over 6 years ago, and brought with my the 18 year old cat who'd I'd had since she was a teeny kitten. Just one month after moving, I discovered my sweet gal had incredibly advanced cancer, and had to make the awful choice to say goodbye.
I felt lost after that, in a town where I knew no one, at a new job, and without my near constant companion for over 18 years. Less than a month later, I knew I needed a new pal to help my apartment feel less horribly empty, and to help heal the hold losing Ribbons had left.
I met several cats, and none of them felt "right." I saw Lumi (named "Sapphire" at the time) and after some back and forth, set up a day to go meet her at her foster home. And it was mutual love at first sight. Her foster mom brought her downstairs, and Lumi immediately crawled into my lap, and proceeded to growl/hiss warningly at any other cat that approached to try to say hi to me. She adopted me just as much as I adopted her that night.
She is an absolute snuggle-bug, and loves to cuddle on my face/neck (as the attached picture shows). She has somewhat begrudgingly accepted our becoming a foster home, ourselves, and the subsequent addition of 3 foster fails over the past few years. I can't imagine my life without her, and love now being a part of the same reached that saved her from the shelter where she was so sick her initial foster wasn't sure she'd make it through. They brought her back to health and made it possible for me to make her an extremely important part of my life and family, and I love FRA for that!
Lumi and I just celebrated (with special treats and tons of catnip) the 6th Anniversary of her Gotcha Day, and I can only hope to have many, many more!!
