I first learned about the clinic, google searching for volunteer services in Nicaragua. As a Nicaraguan citizen, I am grateful that I got to live this unique experience. Enmanuel, the volunteer coordinator, made my schedule productive. My duties included assisting the nurses with direct patient care at the clinic. In addition, I had the honor to serve as a translator for Dr. Fred Mandell, a pediatrician, who volunteers at the clinic. At the same time, I assisted Dr. Ruiz with the ambulatory diabetic clinic in Asentamiento.
My favorite part of my time here was assisting Dr. Ruiz with her trip to Las Salinas elementary school. Dr. Ruiz impressed me with her love and dedication for the children.
Quickly I became friends with the entire staff gaining their love and support. Emmanuel was excellent in providing me with all the necessary information I needed for my time here. The nurses Martha, Lidiel, and Melvin, shared their knowledge and experiences without hesitation.
As a Nicaraguan citizen there are no words to express my gratitude to The Roberto Clemente Health Clinic for their love and support to the poorest of the poor! I will be back for sure!!
