Review for Scholarship For Advanced Guyanese Education, Los Angeles, CA, USA
This organization fills a huge gap in one of the poorest, yet forgotten, countries in the Caribbean and South America. SAGE looks for Guyanese students with limited means but who are dedicated to developing the country. By providing Guyanese students with scholarships to the university and asking that they stay in the country after they graduate, this organization aims to help develop the country from the ground up. Most importantly, I like that this organization approaches development through education of the people who live there, rather than bringing in outsiders. Through education, development is much more sustainable.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
Guyana. I have visited with and spoke with people on the ground there. I have also spoken with the scholarship recipients.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
The dedication of this nonprofit to develop Guyana through education
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
...expand scholarship fund to other developing/emerging countries. ...hire a Guyanese to do recruitment and manage scholars on the ground ...create internship programs, technology workshops, literacy workshops etc for our scholars.
