I have been involved in energy and environmental policy work for over 40 years - in both the public and private sector - and over that time I have found few organizations as committed or as successful as EESI in pursuing knowledge with the goal to educate elected officials, especially Congressional members and staff, on the very real environmental and energy challenges confronting our nation. EESI brings together policy experts and practitioners - people whose job is to address the real world impacts of these challenges - in a nonpartisan manner in public forums to discuss some of the most pressing issues that warrant Congress' attention. These forums are not academic discussions. Almost always they include people who have had to deal with the direct impacts of these issues and can offer from experience practical ideas on how to address these challenges. Knowledge is power. Through its forums and publications, EESI seeks to expand policy makers' and the public's knowledge on important environmental and energy matters in the belief that knowledge will contribute to responsible solutions to our pressing environmental and energy challenges. What makes EESI's contribution even more remarkable is how it is able to fulfill its mission so well with such a small, talented and passionate staff lead by a deeply dedicated and widely respected executive director.
