Review for Collaborative For Teaching And Learning Inc, Louisville, KY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

CTL is a non profit professional development group that provides training to various schools and organizations around the world. Five years ago several organizations in Kentucky collaboratively wrote a federal research grant (Striving Readers) to determine the effectiveness of literacy strategies to improve adolescent reading through a school wide model and a targeted intervention model. CTL provided the professional development for the school wide model, Adolescent Literacy Model, for the duration of the research project. The staff from CTL were very professional, knowledgeable and dedicated to the project. CTL has been instrumental in the design of the project and overall training in the project. CTL staff supported all components of the project including the targeted intervention. All evaluations of CTL's work was excellent citing updated info and research based strategies. The work developed and implemented was superb to any I have seen in my 36 years in education. Always prompt and punctual and ready to deliver. And always keeping the students and teachers as the focal point. Their work focused on each individual school needs. All partners have been very impressed with CTL's work and many plan to continue the work with CTL even after the project is completed in Spring 2011.

No changes, just encouragement. CTL needs to continue their excellent work across Kentucky and the world to help students to learn to read. Their expertise in the field of adolescent literacy should continue to be shared.

Ways to make it better...

My experience was very good. CTL's expertise in adolescent literacy provided a wealth of information, strategies and support to the 950+ teachers within the 23 schools of the project.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The biggest challenges facing this organization was having the manpower to complete training for 23 schools and 950+ teachers in literacy in all content areas. They met the challenge with quality work and support throughout the duration of the project.
