Review for Golden Retriever Club of Greater Los Angeles Rescue, Los Angeles, CA, USA
This rescue group accepted an unsocialized young Golden Retriever who growled and lunged at the initial volunteer she met. They alerted all vet staff and volunteers of the need to go slow because of her fear of new things. They placed her in a board and train facility to learn manners. She was returned from her first permanent home for playing too incessantly and rough with the resident dog. Then she was returned from a foster home because they did not follow instructions on slow approaches. GRCGLA Rescue did not give up on her. Eventually she was placed in a permanent home where she is thriving.

We took a dog, from a local shelter, that had been surrendered because of biting young family members. We determined that he had multiple foxtails deep in his ear canal and provided surgery to remove the foxtails. During his initial boarding period with us, he bit a volunteer before the surgery. Despite removing the source of pain, he also bit a potential foster who had approached his head a little too directly. The local city Animal Services considered him dangerous and impounded him. We could have given up and let him be euthanized. But the volunteers responded with a multitude of suggestions for training facilities or sanctuary ranches that could give this boy a chance. A suitable location was identified and he moved to his new home where he is thriving behaviorally, but with some preciously unidentified medical needs. Volunteers continued to support his well being by contributing large donations to his new home.

We adopted one Golden from a couple helping place Golden Retrievers. We decided to foster through GRCGLA Rescue and within 3 weeks "failed" and adopted that dog. Since then we have fostered many additional dogs. Adopters must be honest with themselves about time availablility, willingness to train, etc. This rescue group works really hard to match adopters with a dog that will meet their needs.
