My first experience with Genesis Joy House was a conversation with Mrs. Margaret Flowers about the organization’s mission of providing transitional housing and enrichment programs among other services for female veterans in Middle Georgia. She gave me a very in-depth tour of the Genesis Joy House property. It included a thorough and transparent update on volunteer opportunities, the business process, and estimated timelines for completion and opening. Her vision for this project is solid. Mrs. Flowers is very passionate about helping homeless female veterans. Although female veterans will be the main beneficiaries of services from the Genesis Joy House Shelter, once the shelter is up and running, it will provide programs and opportunities to enrich the entire community.

I personally agree with the Genesis philosophy of giving people in need a hand-up, and not just a hand-out. It sparked my interest in Genesis and made me want to do more than just give a one-time donation. During the annual Christmas Toy Drive, my family and friends were blessed to donate gift bags with socks and toiletries for the veterans, and socks and candy for the children. This year, we plan to find more ways to help get the Genesis Joy House up and running so they can better service the homeless female veterans and improve our community as a whole.

If you have a heart for helping the homeless population, and you want to use your time, talent, money, etc. to help improve the lives of those in desperate need of a hand-up, then Genesis Joy House Homeless Shelter Inc. is a great organization to support.
