Review for Soi Dog Foundation, Portland, OR, USA
Just came back from volunteering at Soi Dog Foundation, walking and socializing rescued stray dogs. It was an amazing and very rewarding experience and I can't wait to go back.
The place is large, currently hosting around 700 dogs and over 200 cats and includes a fully equipped hospital. My first impression was how remarkably well all the animals looked and are looked after. The whole shelter is immaculately clean. But most impressive was the compassion of all the employees who seemed to know every animal by name and would always find the time for a cuddle and hello.
The team was also extremely welcoming and helpful to all volunteers and created a family atmosphere including everyone from the first moment on.
They not only do a fantastic job rescuing and neutering strays in Phuket and Bangkok, but also help to fight the dog meat trade and step in in other emergency situations.
Locally they are involved in beach clean ups, helping at the understaffed government pound and made the shelter a plastic free zone!
Highly recommend, I only wish I could have stayed longer!
