Review for New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking, Inc., Short Hills , NJ, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I have had the pleasure of working with the New Jersey Coalition Against Human Trafficking (NJCAHT) for almost a year now, and I continue to be impressed and inspired every day by the dedication of the people I work with – their compassion is only rivaled by their determination – and the impact of the work that they do. It should be noted that NJCAHT is currently an all-volunteer organization, which makes the efforts of all these individuals that much more admirable. Everyone does this work on their own time, in addition to their other responsibilities and endeavors, because they are passionate about preventing people from being trafficked in the future, rescuing people who are being trafficked right now, and supporting people who have been trafficked in the past. As a coalition, the work of this organization intersects with so many other people from various vocations, backgrounds and organizations. People from all different faiths unite as one for the common purpose of abolishing slavery. The work done is on many fronts: raising awareness of the issues, training others to recognize the signs and providing tools to help them, locating victims, supporting survivors by connecting them with resources – including for deep trauma and long-term, ongoing recovery – connecting with communities, making inroads in the areas of education, healthcare, law enforcement and the arts and, of course, legislative advocacy. This list is tip of the iceberg. I would encourage anyone with an interest to inquire and learn more; there are many ways to serve and time commitment can be the minimum amount you can spare. As someone at a recent meeting once said quite eloquently: “When one of us is enslaved, none of us are free.”
