As a volunteer for Assistance League of Visalia, I am amazed at how much is accomplished by this all volunteer group of 80 members. Our programs touch the lives of children in Tulare County who need clothing to help them feel a part of their school environment. Our work is affirmed by the surveys we conduct each year that show our clothing program makes 85% of the participants feel more connected to school and their peers. Our newest program allows all students in elementary schools to select a book for their home library. Literacy in the home is a vital component to success and these books in the home are a great beginning.
