Review for Youth Science Center, Hacienda Heights, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is a terrific organization, founded 25 years ago. We heard about it this spring from someone at my son's boy scout troop, and we are glad we did. In the course of the three classes he took, he built a catapult and trebuchet (learning physics along the way); built and programmed robots (Lego Mindstorms); and studied science and the "Great Minds" that pioneered it. Also, the YSC sponsors field trips to places like Northrop, The Paige Museum at La Brea Tar Pits and the Raymond Alf Museum. We have not been disappointed and look forward to enrolling next year. Oh, and staff and volunteers are all very friendly, and the classes are affordable, as it is a non profit organization.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

an increase in my son's understanding of, and interest in science. Many of the YSC's former students now are studying or have studied science in universities, thanks in part to their experiences at the YSC.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

They are hoping to get a county or city grant for a new structure. This would be very nice for them.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The field trips -- and giving my son some academic activities during the summer.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Very friendly, from the founders to the volunteers who enrolled us and showed us around the exhibits.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Build a new, state of the art campus with audio visual, lots of computers and software, and other educational tools. Also, they could invest in a bus and driver for field trips and offer some compensation to their volunteers.

Ways to make it better...

Nothing, they are excellent!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

They need funds, like all growing Non profits!

One thing I'd also say is that...

They are terrific! Thanks for helping make it great summer!
