For fourty years the Ink People Center for the Arts has been weaving the arts into the fabric of our community here in Eureka California and Humboldt County. My personal experience has been seeing the light that comes into the eyes of kids in and out of juvenile hall or "at risk" programs who find joyful self expression through the gallery, music and poetry programs at offered for them through the Ink People. I was in the Ink People Gallery on day and just happen to catch the opening of a show by a group of "kids" from such a program-12-14 yrs. old. They were so proud and happy, and their art was fresh and moving.

Just this last Sunday, I was walking in our neighborhood and saw a banner inviting everyone to a Dia de los Muertos festival at a local restaurant. The festival was being organized by a neighborhood group through the Ink People's "Dreammakers" program. The Ink People provide fiscal agent and admin services to nearly 100 such organizations or artists. Suddenly, it ocured to me that every day our community is filled with visual art, music, performance art-you name it, because of the Ink People! Next year the Ink People Center for the Arts will celebrate 40 years of being the heart of art in Humboldt. They truly Rock!
