My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Low Vision Resource Center, San Antonio, TX, USA
I have been a volunteer with San Antonio's Owl radio since they began broadcasting on air. I was nervous the entire first year; reading the news of the day aloud, often without proofreading was challenging. As I began to warm to my weekly session (Friday, first hour), it was clear I could loosen up and enjoy knowing the listeners were hearing 'me' and all I bring as a volunteer. There have been times I could not stop laughing at something I had read, other times, when tears came, I had to push the microphone away and let my reading partner take over. We are bringing news of the world into the homes of so many people, the good and the bad, and the service Owl Radio offers is critical to those who cannot see. The staff is friendly, funny and kind and the readers, both past, present are terrific people. It is an honor to be counted as a volunteer with this noble organization.
