Review for Pearl S. Buck International, Inc., Perkasie, PA, USA
I first knew Pearl Buck because she was my mother's favorite author, so it was natural that I would read The Good Earth and, after that, many more of Ms. Buck's books. I began volunteering at Pearl Buck's home mostly as someone who loved her books and wanted to know more about her. I am so glad I did. Pearl S. Buck International has reinforced my belief that the best way to make the world a better place is to reach out to people who, at first acquaintance, seem different from me. Not just that it is important to reach out, but this organization has shown me tangible ways to do that. As a docent and someone who helps out in the gift shop, I've heard countless stories of people who were inspired and enriched by Ms. Bucks's example. They want to be a part of her legacy, to learn about other cultures, and to share their knowledge with others. In short, though this remarkable woman has been dead for nearly fifty years, she continues to be a bridge of understanding. The ideals and work of Pearl S. Buck International are, I believe, our best hope to achieve the seemingly impossible goal of peace on earth.
