My motivation for volunteer work focuses around using dogs in unique (sometimes it seems like tip-of-the-spear) ways to assist special-needs children and veterans achieve an independent and fulfilling quality of life. From first-hand experience with a family member's unique and positive experience a trained assistance animal can provide, convinces me that assistance dogs are an effective quality-of-life augmentation and can also be a collateral/alternative (sans side-effects) treatment option.

There are numerous organizations engaged in this and related service dog activities. I actively support Tender Loving Canine Assistance Dogs (TLCAD) and their mission statement (to transform lives with service dogs) because of their targeted client group(s) (kids & vets); training philosophy (positive reinforcement); collateral rehabilitative benefit (for California Dept of Corrections & Rehabilitation, and USMC brig inmate dog trainers); plus the rewarding experience to work alongside a talented, dedicated, and caring hand-picked stellar staff.
