Review for Society For The Prevention Of Cruelty To Animals Of Polk Co Tx, Livingston, TX, USA

Rating: 5 stars

The people who operate the SPCA of POLK COUNTY in Livingston, TX are some of the hardest working, most dedicated people my wife & I have ever met. They are ALL volunteers who give freely of their time ... and sometimes their own money to make sure that the animals who are brought to them are well-cared for are placed with loving families.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

The care that they take to place animals in their "forever homes".

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Move them into larger, less crowded facilities (which we are working on) and I would establish a more formal fundraising program. However, given that there are no professional fund-raisers on staff they do a FANTASTIC job of raising money!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with the volunteers and fostering puppies.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Dedicated & professional animal lovers to the bone.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

With the 1st million it could, buy a property large enough to hold all the surrendered animals in a three county area, erect a state of the art holding & treatment center, hire 2 full-time people and with the $9 Mil left establish a trust fund.

Ways to make it better...

... more puppies!

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Adequate space to care for an increasing number of animals coming in and educating the public to the fact that the ONLY source of funding is through donations. Contrary to popular opinion they get NO funding from the county govt, the Houston SPCA or ASPCA

One thing I'd also say is that...

If any organization deserves consideration for donations this is it. Almost 100% of the money raised goes directly to the care of the animals.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  General Member of the Public & We have fostered puppies for the organization, donated cash & property and are currently working with the board to help acquire a permanent home of its own for the increasing number of animals which arrive every day.
