Review for Newfoundland Pony Conservancy Center, Fitzwilliam, NH, USA

Rating: 5 stars   Featured Review

I have worked with NPCC for over 7 years and they mentored me when I was first getting involved with conserving this endangered breed. I would not have entrusted 2 of my mares ( the mother and sister of my breeding stallion) if I did not have the highest opinion of this all volunteer organization. Thanks to NPCC, 2 foals were born to those mares this summer which makes all the efforts of bringing them to New England from the Midwest worthwhile. This move has brought together new combinations of bloodlines and is another small step to ensure the long term future of the breed. I miss my girls but I get regular updates on their progress and I know they are in very good hands.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Currently NPCC primarily serves New England. I would like to see their scope expand

I’ve supported and volunteered for EST since its inception to the present day -20 years I am also a board member. I can confirm that all the officers and board members are unpaid volunteers and the office overheads are kept to a minimum. For an organization run on a shoestring, EST does an enormous amount of good. At this summer’s SANA show we ran an educational youth tour which was very well attended and received.

EST has helped education and conservation of rare equine breeds for close to 20 years . They network with breed organizations and enthusiasts and provide support whenever possible. Because it is run by unpaid volunteers, the administrative costs are minimal and money goes direct to their mission. I continue to donate because I believe in the organization’s mission

I have supported this charity almost from its beginning because I feel it does work no other organization can. I continue to donate time and money as and where I can.

EST is run by volunteers who accept no payments. There are no salaried staff, no fancy headquarters and no paid fundraising. Donors can be sure that the maximum possible proportion of their donations go out in direct support at the grassroots level.

EST has helped in disaster situations and all aspects of conservation. It works closely with individual breed organizations to offer useful help and support genetic diversity encourage new breeding programs. Through its stewardship and education programs, it is helping historically important endangered equines to have a viable future as well as a past.

I have supported EST since its inception. There is no other similar organization. The problems of conserving rare and endangered equines are not the same as other livestock breeds. EST has a long and honorable track record of networking, providing practical help and advice to individuals and breed organizations, promoting endangered breeds by organizing or supporting events and educating the public.

I have been a a volunteer, an exhibitor and a board member at various times and I continue to donate time and money As a board member of EST, I am in a position to confirm that the staff are all volunteers and the overheads are kept to an absolute minimum. This ensures that donations go to the cause and are not consumed by paid staff, fundraising or fancy offices. If more non profits were like EST, the world would be a better place!

This organization is doing great things for the endangered Newfoundland pony. In addition to their work protecting and publicizing the breed locally in New England, I particularly like how they are working to build a network of breed supporters across the USA and how they work closely with Canada and Newfoundland to benefit ponies in need and promote good breeding practices. I believe the money I donate is very well spent.

Thank you Alison! You have done impressive things for Fell ponies and we are honored to have your attention turn to the Newfoundland Pony. While it's great to save a breed, it's not great to save it the wrong way like adding outside blood, and breeding for specific markets. You know this already and our admiration is mutual. The breed needs more knowledgable people like you.
