Review for Doxie Rescue of Bucks County & NJ, Morrisville, PA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I am so proud to be a volunteer for Doxie Rescue of Bucks County & NJ. This allows me to understand how DRBC works. Unfortunately many special needs dogs end up with no place to call home and very uncertain futures. Dogs that can have significant medical needs. I get to see what happens first hand - what the rescue does - and that is to remove whatever barriers there might be to getting those dogs to a safe place and their new future. Absolutely no pausing - just problem solving for transport, needed funds, accommodating foster homes - whatever is needed and whenever it is needed. And not just dogs local to the rescue. This is the life of DRBC 24/7. They realize that because of the special issues each of these dogs that come in have, regardless of age, they could require permanent sanctuary in a home within the rescue. Meaning all costs, medical, food and more, covered for the time that dog is a resident, which is often the rest of their life. I personally have one such dog. Thomas was thrown from the window of a moving car and is subsequently paralyzed in his rear limbs. He was taken to a local shelter where his future looked grim. But luckily DRBC found out about Thomas' predicament and made him a part of the family. Another bonded pair, Max and Harley, also found their way to the rescue. Max has a life long autoimmune disease that nearly ended his life (who now is doing well) and Harley suffered from IVDD and required surgery, leaving him with lingering neurologic deficits. Two more life long residents. And there are so many more dogs. Two more stories that make me so proud are dogs that developed life threatening health issues that left their families, who desperately loved them, unable to provide appropriate care so opted relinquishment. One of the dogs was a therapy dog for a veteran with PTSD. In those instances DRBC brought the dogs in and cared for and covered all costs to bring the dog's back to health. At which time the dogs were reunited with their ecstatic and grateful families. And I could go on. What I want to pause and add is these dogs are given the best medical care and whatever is needed. I know this because I am a veterinarian. Thanks to Doxie Rescue of Bucks County & NJ so many special need dogs have a life. They make sure that every dog has a safe and loving place to go.

I have found myself in a very painful, unexpected and unfortunate circumstance of needing to re-home one of my four dogs. My dog Kensie suffers from anxiety and redirected aggression to other dogs and has severely injured one dog and moderately injured another. She and I work with a veterinary behaviorist and experienced dog trainer and she is on medications and is never left unsupervised with the others. Suffice it to say that just managing everything day-to-day is difficult for us all and is taking a toll on her. I love her deeply and have realized that she isn't having the quality of life that she deserves which could be possible in a single-dog home. I never thought I'd be in this position and struggled to find a path forward to re-home a special needs dog, That's when I reached out to DRBC. It's like the weight of the world has been lifted from my shoulders. They have taken so much time to assure me that with their years of experience this can be done in a way that will provide her a happy future. They are so sensitive to my emotions, feeling s and needs - and there is definitely no judgement. They take care of everything but allow me to be involved to the extent I'm comfortable. I've been able to witness first hand how they take dogs that likely wouldn't get a chance anywhere else, and make them a part of the DRBC family, and find their forever homes. And in a time of need for me - they've offered that special gift to my love, Kensie. This is definitely who you want to experience either surrendering or adopting a family member with - they are very simply the best.
