Review for Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, San Jose, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

This is an all-volunteer organization who survives on the selfless generosity of hundreds of people. In my own case, I put out my own money for transporting, feeding, and entertaining (ie toys) for the fosters, and of course time to help socialize the birds. I've donated time and money for dozens of adoption fairs and fundraising events, whether hosted by Mickaboo, by humane societies, or places like Pet Food Express, Andy's Pet Store, or For Other Living Things. I have seen other volunteers willing to interrupt their own family celebrations or work routines to rush to help a bird(s) in medical distress or other need.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the number of foster birds housed in my home, the number of birds I have adopted from Mickaboo, and the friends I have gained through my volunteering.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

find ways to a) help with their cash flow - largely dependent on episodic donations by many, many people, and understandably adversely affected by the economic recession and b) help find volunteers who can be steady-eddie back-office people.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

seeing everyone's generosity - both with their time and their financial resources - to make things right for the birds in their realm of responsibility.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

generous, compassionate, wanting to do the right thing

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

focus more on educating the public on what it takes to provide proper bird care, and potentially provide a facility for birds more fit for an aviary than a home.

Ways to make it better...

there were more volunteers to do the day-to-day work of rescue, both in the "front office" and the "back office".

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

One thing I'd also say is that...

I am very proud of this organization and what it stands for.
