I first heard of Pit Sisters a few years ago and even participated in a couple adoption events. I picked up a dog that a foster mom couldn't take that day and while she didn't send me with anything for the dog, when I got to Petsmart and noticed all of the other adoptables with blankets and toys and treats in their kennels, it made the dog I picked up just look so bare in hers and I couldn't have that! As if she wasn't cute enough, I went inside and bought some items for her just so she would "fit in". And I've donated a few things here and there and shared some of their adoptables. But it wasn't until this past year when my sister started volunteering and fostering that I got more involved. I had wanted to do more, but with a 1 year old, a horse and work, my time was limited but when they say the smallest things make a difference, they mean it! So while I may not be able to interact with the dogs as much or volunteer my time, I try to donate food and supplies when I can. I keep an eye on the FB page and obviously keep in touch with my sister to see what they may really need from time to time. I love that they allow volunteers to walks dogs as well. I've taken a couple dogs out and just spent a couple hours with them, roaming through trails, watching other people at the park and just enjoying the nice breeze by a pond and you can see their whole demeanor change within that time. All dogs deserve to be loved and treated as if they are more than just a dog and Pit Sisters and their volunteers do just that!
