Review for Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue, San Jose, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I volunteer with Mickaboo, have adopted birds for them, and foster several birds also.

Mickaboo goes well beyond a minimum rescue. They ensure that all their birds, from tiny finches to the big macaws get whatever vet care is necessary to maintain their health and well being. They also go to great lengths to be certain that their birds adopted into homes where they will continue to be safe, healthy, and happy! Just like the cockatiel in this picture!

I am a foster parent for Mickaboo. The people who do the work with this organization are ALL volunteers. This includes the "heavy lifting" - taking birds out of of filthy, disgusting conditions; driving miles to get birds to safe new homes or just getting cages to birds that need them; even doing the paperwork! Mickaboo takes responsibility for their birds FOR LIFE - they will always take them back. That truly is love. The elderly cockatiel in the picture is just sleeping. After he was rescued, he got to take what was apparently the first bath he had ever had! He lay down to sleep because his arthritis was so bad, he felt more comfortable this way.

Mickaboo has been rescuing birds in northern California for over 20 years. We have no paid staff, no office, and our primary expenses are for veterinary care, equipment storage, postage, and the care and feeding of our computer servers.

We offer the same level of care and love to the tiniest budgies, finches, and canaries that we give to the biggest macaws and Amazons. It is a sad fact that the flock of pet birds needing rescue is growing. We are, however, blessed with amazing, hardworking, dedicated volunteers who are willing to fill their homes with rescued birds and the birds, in turn, fill the volunteers' lives with joy.
