PI is an incredible and important organization run by wonderful people. They make concrete, meaningful change in the communities where they live and work.

Proyecto Itzaes is an impactful and important organization that runs diverse, community-driven programming for kids in rural villages. PI supports learning and fun for toddlers through young adults and it is so clear how much the students and teachers love and appreciate the program. The organizers and teachers are creative and brilliant, and are constantly finding new ways to support and encourage learning and community engagement.

I volunteered with Proyecto Itzaes and saw that PI makes a long-term investment in its communities, starting when kids are in preschool and continuing past their college graduations. Most PI students that are in college are the first in their families to do so and depend on the support of scholarships.

PI also runs a bookmobile-plus type operation, going on the road to small, more remote villages to bring books, games, art supplies, and charismatic asesores. I think PI is uniquely successful because they bring materials and logistics along with positive examples of education and hard work paying off in their communities. PI classes take having fun seriously, and hold Maya language and culture, sports, art, and talking about emotions as part of a holistic education. The PI team is dedicated, creative, and adored, especially by their students.
