I have volunteered with Mickaboo Companion Bird Rescue for almost 10 years. It still amazes the lengths MIckaboo volunteers will go to help a parrot in need. They have rescued large flocks from horrid environments, found homes for birds that have out lived their humans and rescued many single birds from dismal conditions. A recent example of that is Ziggy the greenwing macaw.

Ziggy is 27 year old greenwing macaw. He had the same owner for most his life. But as his owner got into her later years, his quality of life declined. He also had a macaw buddy for years, but a raccoon killed him while Ziggy watched. Ziggy ended up living in a tiny rusty cage in the garage. Needless to say, his life was pretty dismal until Mickaboo found out about him.

Ziggy is now in a wonderful foster home. It turns out that despite all he has been through, is a real sweetie! A true gentle giant! He has been to an avian certified vet and he is surprisingly healthy. He is now available for adoption, but his foster mom is really falling in love with him!
