When choosing a non-profit/charity, I'm particular as to my donations. I am careful to ensure that my donation is wisely spent.
Often, I depend on my personal experience as to how the donation may help.
I also look beyond the United States to help others in the world. When I do, I depend on the help of my friends to give credibility for the cause. With Good Shepherd I have a friend that is strongly involved, with her encouragement...and personal challenges, I make my donations with more confidence that I'm really helping out.
