Review for International Snow Leopard Trust, Seattle, WA, USA
Snow leopards are surely among the most beautiful and enigmatic animals on Earth. Extremely rare and almost impossible to see in the wild, they are, nevertheless, the target of poaching for their wonderfully patterned fur as well as the occasional foray into the sheep pens of impoverished farmers in Mongolia and elsewhere. Where the Snow Leopard Trust is a game-changer is when it creates a compensation scheme for those farmers who've lost animals as well as paying them to protect "their"leopards from poaching and act as guides for ecotourists. This turns these endangered animals into profitable animals to keep around - for the farmers and their children and *their* education. A win-win-win for the residents, their families, and the snow leopard.
