Review for International Snow Leopard Trust, Seattle, WA, USA
One of the best things about this nonprofit is that most of its field officers are local men and women. Snow Leopard Trust provides funds and training and help but it doesn't impose itself on local cultures. Nor does it seek to protect leopards at the expense of local villagers and animal herders. It works with people, compensating them when their livestock are killed by leopards, providing alternative sources of income to reduce the temptation to poach leopards, rewarding locals for preventing outsiders from poaching. SLT is small but makes a big difference and does good research. I've been a supporter for more than 10 years.
