Review for Hand in Paw, Birmingham, AL, USA
As a volunteer, I have seen this group in action in so many different situations, all with different needs, such as Ronald McDonald House, a nursing home, a children's hospital, a school, a shelter for adolescent runaways...with these variety of needs being met by the gentle presence of the sweet animals and volunteers within the program. I've seen children crying from pain and fear, suddenly laugh and smile when their dog friend wags his tail and sits close. I've seen nursing home residents sing to the dogs and smile and use all their strength just to reach out to touch and stroke the dog that reminds them of home and days of their youth. Residents who are isolated and never want human contact, always welcoming the dogs. I could go on and on. It is such an honor to be a part and to be a front row witness of the healing and joy unconditional love from the animals brings to so many in so many ways.
