Review for Beacon House Association of San Pedro, San Pedro, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I came to the Beacon House like so many of my Beaconero brothers. Beat down into submission by my self destructiveness and imprisonment to my alcoholism, and drug addictions. My disease put me through four major life threatening operations , jail time, nuthouses, homelessness and disconnected family. The House taught me that it is epicentered with a definite spiritual connection that restores lives, and rejuvenates opportunity that was lost rotting in the underbelly of alcohol and drug abuse. First i was shown and taught humility which i learned and am still learning is the key to willingness. I was shown by the men before me that there was hope, even for me. I was taught from the start to help others even though my selfishness rejected it. The Beacon House gave me the avenue to self truth and self honesty on which i was introduced and taught the 12 Step program , which enabled me to gain Principles in my life. I was given a tool bag with tools to assist me in coping with a new way of thinking and living. I was at the house for almost 5 yrs. I did the mission statement and moved on the way it was laid out! In that time i was blessed with the opportunity to learn Graphic Design, which i make a living doing now!, and learn how to do life on life's terms. I was taught that i do not have to run-away from anything. Today i am so grateful to the Beacon House, and all the staff, which taught me that gratitude is manifested through action so i respond to the call of writing a review. I could never give back enough to the House of what was given to me. I am an alumni 8 yrs. sober The last house on the Block!

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Doing life!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Give them lot's of needed monies!

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The changing of lives and the presence of miracles!

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The staff are my friends because they will call me on my !&%^$!!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change more lives! Not just the alcoholic, addict but the children and family of the afflicted.

Ways to make it better...

I would went there sooner.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

Funds

One thing I'd also say is that...

God has His hand in the Beacon House because of the miracles. I am one of those miracles!

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Thank you for your review of the Beacon House. Beacon House would not be what it is without the men who come here and keep our work alive by passing it on to the new men. Keep doing what you are doing and hope to see you at the Alumni Get Together on August 14.
