I fell in love with Monkeyhouse long ago, on the other side of the country when they toured Another Femme Fatale Freak Show to the SF Fringe. They have a sense of humor about themselves and about movement that punctures the fear of not knowing that permeates so much of the possible dance audience.
But they never let that sense of humor interfere with being word class dancers.

They incorporate different bodies and shapes into their work rather than simply casting traditional dancer bodies and if there is pain or injury they explore and incorporate it as part of the movement. It's magical and that sense of play makes it accessible to a much broader range of audiences than a more traditional company would.
