I’ve volunteered with Achieve Tahoe’s winter ski program for the past few years, and have always been impressed by the staff’s dedication in providing adaptive sports programs to people with disabilities. This group’s longevity — it was founded in 1967 – speaks to its expertise in delivering programming and in managing a nonprofit organization. I am one of a large group of Achieve Tahoe volunteers; we all receive extensive annual training on how to provide an adaptive ski lesson, and specialized trainings are offered throughout the season. It is so rewarding to work with a client and watch him or her have fun, maybe overcome a fear and accomplish a goal. I have gotten so much more out of this program than I have put in.
