Review for Orang Utan Republik Foundation Inc, Santa Monica, CA, USA
I have been a volunteering for OURF since December 2017 and have really become very passionate about this organization and what its doing in regards to the conservation of Orangutans and its natural habitat. I have helped spur a season of volunteer events where volunteers are going to different events helping educate the public and answer questions they may have regarding palm oil and Orangutans. The funds we have helped raise and donate are going to different scholarship programs in Indonesia to the young Indonesians who will grow to be ambassadors for their environment and the endangered species in that habitat. The funds and attention we've brought to OURF has helped sustain the Mobile Engineering and Conservation Unit. This unit not only provides education and training to villagers in areas adjacent to Gunung Leuser National Park, the MECU Program provides transport of young trees and supplies and a strategy to plant diverse species in degraded forest areas within Gunung Leuser National Park. OURF and CPOI-Sumut have received permission by the Park authority to conduct tree-planting in regions in and around the national park. Additionally, the MECU Team works with local famers in villages to reduce conflict with ape populations in adjacent forest habitat by enhancing agro-forestry techniques that improve productivity on existing farm and community forestland including creation of recycling/waste management/composting projects; soil quality enhancement, tree-planting, and developing appropriate permaculture methods.
