Review for Second Wind Fund, Denver, CO, USA
We all hope that “somebody will do something about that.” Whatever “that” happens to be. When I first heard about Second Wind and what those passionate people had accomplished in curtailing youth suicide, I was happy that somebody was doing something about that. But I when I learned about how successful Second Wind was every day, I knew I just had to get involved. I could become that “somebody” who was truly doing something about that. Second Wind has gone beyond making us aware of the problem of youth suicide, studying its causes, garnering public support, and gathering funds to fight the problem. Second Wind has actually, tangibly, efficiently and effectively established program that has saved over 2,000 young lives in just six years on a budget so modest that it would embarrass most national organizations. So I joined Second Wind because a young life lost to suicide diminishes each of us and makes our world just a little bit less joyous, complete, and loving. I’m proud to be a part of a community that Second Wind has impacted, and to know that every dollar I raise pays out in the laughs, smiles, contribution, and extended love that saving a young life brings.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
seeing how it has saved lives, changed lives, and made us all better for being participants in that grand accomplishment.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Expand it nationally so other cities and towns could benefit from the success-on-a-shoestring that Second Wind has brought.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Seeing the actual, tangible results of the accomplishment of saving lives. It works - that's the message, you CAN save lives and it takes less time than you think, less paperwork, and less money. How's THAT for success?!
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Supremely dedicated and feel they are on a successful mission. It's an honor to be associated with them all.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Begin by saving 20,000 lives. Moreover, it could expand throughout the nation and world to actually show people how to set up organizations that save lives and have a massive impact on our society. Not HOPE to save lives, but ACTUALLY do it.
Ways to make it better...
I had more time to be a volunteer and part of things.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Fundraising and awareness. One will bring the other, but it's a struggle.
One thing I'd also say is that...
It works. Listen to that: IT WORKS. Second Wind has developed a win-win program that actually works to save lives. Not HOPE to save them, but actually SAVES them ... and we do it at a fraction of the cost.
