Review for Independent Cat Society, Westville, IN, USA
The Independent Cat Society is a wonderful shelter. The volunteers and staff care so much about the cats....I have taken care of outdoor colony cats for years, and for years they have helped me by taking in house cats that get dumped or wander into the colony. I really don't know what I would have done without them. When they have extra donated food they always ask if I need any. When the shelter is full of cats and kittens, they still try to help, because that is just who they are and what they are about. All the cats that enter the shelter are fixed and vetted, and get shots and tested for diseases before they are adopted out, and that is so very important, because many times people who adopt have other cats at home and you want to make sure you know exactly what you are bringing into your home. Not all shelters do this. They love when people come and visit with the kittys that are there, because they need attention, and to be played with, and loved...It is good for the human soul and good for the kitties too. I have come to know a lot of the people who work there and it is a very friendly place. People have a tendency to ask me what shelter is the best (because they know that I deal with cat situations a lot) and I always say "The Independent Cat Society," because they are the best one out there.
Also, this year has been a big year for our TNR program. It is now headed by Jodi Dusek and we have been trapping and fixing more cats than we ever have....I believe we are up to #135 for this year. This will help keep the kitten births down and help control outdoor cat populations.
