Review for Humane Society Of South Central Michigan, Battle Creek, MI, USA
You hear to always adopt rescues. I expected the Humane society to care about placing their animals. That was not the case in my experience. My mother is 86 with dementia and her cat recently died. She is devastated. I was trying to find another cat similar in looks to put some "normal" back into her life. I filled out the 2 pg application and emailed it right away with my request about adopting one of the cats. Because we didn't have vet records for our previous animals (all which are deceased and saw vets in other states) we were denied. They would rather have their animals live most of their life in a shelter than be placed in a very good forever home. They say they have the animals best interest but they don't. I explained the vet in the other state is no longer in business. I found vet records from another state for some of my previous cats showing they had shots and boosters. That wasn't good enough. They gave no consideration to the circumstances and made no exception. My previous cats lived from 10-16 yrs old before passing away. I must've done something right in providing care for them but that didn't matter either. The animal e wanted to adopt has lived 2 1/2 of her 3 years in a shelter. We could've given her the best home ever. She, like so many other animals there, were denied a home based on "guidelines and their belief of what makes a good home". I feel so sorry for the animals and this place should never be considered an animal advocate. I feel sorry that they want to hide behind their rules rather than think of the animal. I will never recommend them to anyone looking to find an animal. If I could give a 1/2 star I would've.
