HSHV is a state-of-the-art facility, with a dedicated professional staff and scores of volunteers, including the JVs (junior volunteers). It has an attached veterinary office. Dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, and the occasional turtle are treated with great kindness in their five-star temporary home. Puppies who arrive on the Love Train are eagerly awaited and quickly adopted, the majority within a day or two of arrival. Adopters take numbers to choose their next family member. Some adult dogs, often pit bull mixes, have a longer stay, but they are worked with, cared for, and socialized until they, too, inevitably find their homes. I recently moved back to Ann Arbor from western Massachusetts, where the shelters simply can't compare in terms of the resources, human and otherwise, that HSHV provides. The best of the best.
