Review for Days for Girls International , Mt. Vernon, WA, USA
My name is Diana Nelson, and I first learned about Days for Girls when living in Bangkok, Thailand. I had lived overseas and traveled extensively and never once did I think what women and girls were doing to manage their menstruation until I heard Celeste Mergen's (founder of DfG) give a speech in Hong Kong. Learning what some women and girls were going through, and how they were being treated because of something that was natural was hard for me to understand. I knew I had to get involved. I now live in South Africa and get to see, first hand, how DfG Kits are literally changing lives. I was just able to follow up with women and girls who had received their DfG 1-2 years earlier and heard from them the difference this little bag has made in their lives. The young girls now don't miss school, the older women can now attend meetings, travel, and not feel shame or worry that they smell or will leak. All of them reported no more infections since using their DfG washable pads. I love that this is a problem that can be fixed and that it is changing lives by creating more dignity and opportunity for those who receive DfG menstrual education and washable pads. I included two pictures that I took at my last DfG Distribution because I think it captures how these girls and women feel about getting a DfG washable pad that they know will make all the difference in their lives.
