Review for Multidisciplinary Association For Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), San Jose, CA, USA
MAPS is a gift to our society. My work as a researcher, mental health clinician, and social justice advocate has been enhanced through the information and diverse perspectives found the organization's healing social and spiritual explorations. For about a year I let me membership laps. This was in reaction to receiving an unhelpful response after I inquired about the MAPS therapist training (mentioned in a research proposal). I basically received a message that to learn more about the therapist training I had to attend the upcoming MAPS conference. Living on the other side of the country and being busy person, going to the conference was not an option. I felt frustrated that this information appeared to be off limits because of my inability to attend this conference. Request for donations and renewal of membership continued to appear in my mail and email box. I considered writing to Rick concerning my experience, and at the same time, I have been busy with other obligations. After receiving a recent MAPS publication on Death and Dying, i decided to set aside the disappointment I felt with my last interaction and renew my membership. I believe in the medicine MAPS provides to cultures. The publication on Death and Dying reminded me of the importance of supporting this organization.
