Review for Multidisciplinary Association For Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), San Jose, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

MAPS has a truly unique mission with underlying philantropy and great motivation to carry it out. The impact of developing psychedelic drugs into non-profit medication will probably be widely understood only in the next decades. MAPS is clearly ahead of its time by having such a humanitarian vision. Following their activities for years, I am absolutely convinced that they can carry out their work with sufficient continuous support. After all, they have the most enthusiastic staff that I've ever seen in a non-profit organization, with an amazing amount of energy and good spirit to radiate. MAPS's efficiency had been clearly proved also by the recently organized cutting-edge conference, which gathered top-level scientists from all around the world. For me personally, MAPS had provided invaluable help by sharing scientific information about the latest psychedelic research that it conducts. I have used this information both for my PhD thesis in Cognitive Neuroscience and for disseminating reliable information on psychoactive substances to the general public.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

My latest experience with MAPS was at the superb "Psychedelic Science in the 21st Century" conference that they organized in April 2010 in San Jose, CA.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

...hire myself to support better their mission :)

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

...the great spirit Rick and his team radiates by having such a high level of vision and motivation.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

...like a loving family! They are clearly doing what they love to do, and this gives them great efficiency.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

...develop non-profit psychedelic drugs to cure thousands of people.

Ways to make it better...

...I had a chance to spend more time with them.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

...the slowly changing public attitudes toward psychedelic substances, which are presently based on a great amount of misinformation after decades of negative propaganda.

One thing I'd also say is that...

...it's rare to see such a well-functioning organization that MAPS actually is.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every six months

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2010

Role:  Professional with expertise in this field & I acquired huge amounts of information on psychedelic drug research via MAPS and used it for my PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience.
