Review for Multidisciplinary Association For Psychedelic Studies (MAPS), San Jose, CA, USA
MAPS is probably one of the most effective organizations working today to improve the quality of care and recovery for people with emotional, relational and living challenges. Its dedicated activism is promoting research and clinical trial therapies in areas of trauma, PTSD and terminal illness anxiety/fear. Its on-going financial support from the public is a testament to the organization's vision and mission and the public's knowledge and experience that some of the substances that have been previously pro-scribed are extremely effective in therapy, healing, personal growth, and spiritual experience and evolvement. As someone who has experienced the therapies with substances that are now undergoing FDA sanctioned trials, I can say without reservation that they helped change my life in positive ways, had profound healing effects, improved my sense of spirituality, and helped me become a more effective therapist and a better person. The structured and supervised use of psychedelics has been one of the great change agents in my life and a true blessing. I have supported MAPS for more than twenty years.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
MAPS is promoting types of therapy that are more effective than what is done today. I know from experience. MAPS has an excellant quarterly publication that is a must read. I have gone to their national conferences and found these to be excellent.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
I would give them more money. It's a great organization and a lot of credit has to go to Rick Doblin for his vision, the development of the mission and the creation of the staff.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Their forward thinking and determination to take an activist role in expanding the legal, clinical use of certain substances to enhance therapy effectiveness.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
Intelligent, helpful and friendly.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
Further scientific research in the clinical use of psychedelics and further petition the government for more clinical trials. It could more effectively show that MDMA therapies are extremely effective with PTSD.
Ways to make it better...
My experience was excellent.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
Money and pushing proposals through the government labyrinth and on-going challenges. Public perception has still lumped all drugs into one negative category.
One thing I'd also say is that...
One properly presented, clinically structured MDMA session is worth a year of psychotherapy. I speak from experience - from both sides.
