Review for Lost Paws Rescue of Texas, Carrollton, TX, USA
I first became aware of Lost Paws about 13 years ago. I had recently lost one of my precious "babies" to cancer and had no plans of getting another, but still always looked at the animals at the adoption events at PetSmart when we would go in for supplies for out other furkids.
There was a one there that just stole my heart! Her name was Gretchen. She was a Doxie mix and she had on a cone of shame because she had surgery on a back leg. She only weighed about 10 lbs. I asked if I could take her out of her cage and hold her and Yvette, the Directer of Lost Paws, brought her to me and started telling me her story.
Gretchen had been found in the bushes at an apartment complex by a worker. She was so emaciated and weak that when they rescued her, the shelter didn't expect her to live, so they didn't give her vaccinations at first. She was a fighter and proved them wrong. She had soft tissue damage to her back legs, so Lost Paws was trying to have that taken care of. That was why she had on the "cone of shame".
It was almost Christmas and my husband and I were getting ready to leave town for a week, but I got Yvette's card before I left. My husband was not extremely thrilled. I just couldn't get that sweet pup out of my mind. When we returned, I called Yvette to at least see how Gretchen was doing.
My husband relented to the extent of saying that perhaps we could "foster" her. Of course, I IMMEDIATELY called Yvette and she agreed to allow us to foster Gretchen through her recovery. In the long run we foster failed and adopted that sweet little girl. She was the light of my life for another 12 years before she crossed the rainbow bridge.
Through Gretchen I came to know the wonderful work that Lost Paws Rescue of Texas does. I have done some volunteer work for them. I have become friends with Yvette and know how dedicated she is to Lost Paws and to the animals she rescues. She always puts the animals first, which truly can't be said about rescue groups. As i n Gretchen's case, she will go above and beyond to give them the best life possible once they come under the Lost Paws umbrella.
I have found a couple of strays over the years that have not been claimed. Yvette has taken them in to Lost Paws and found them wonderful, loving forever homes. I am so grateful to Yvette and to Lost Paws and all of the volunteers for all that they do.
