Review for International Fund for Economic Development Inc, Atlanta, GA, USA
Last year, I traveled to Belize with members of the IFED organization. Belize, surrounded in nature, was plagued with poverty which was present throughout their schooling system. Children were denied a good education because of their lack of resources, trapping them into a cycle of poverty. As I walked through an isolated village, the school building had little textbooks, very few pencils, and very little resources that suggested "economic development" to remove these good people out of this ruthless cycle of poverty. However, IFED brought about good change in these people's lives. Showing up to that school, located next to a river and a jungle, we were able to provide them with textbooks and a grant that would maintain a healthy flow of the necessary resources to pull this area out of poverty. Things as small as pencils, paper, coloring books, and textbooks are so important in educating the youth, their ticket out of poverty. IFED provides a lifeline to these rural communities in need of resources to educate and teach. Education provides these students with a basic knowledge to get them more sophisticated, higher-paying jobs as well as gives them a passion for learning. This passion sparks their future path, where they can pursue higher education and get better jobs. IFED's job in the world is perfect as they provide the basic resources and building blocks to develop a child's mind. I believe that IFED is one of the most important organizations because they engage students, provide resources, and spark a passion for learning in every student they come across in order to pull people out of a cycle of poverty.
