I had never heard of Pelican Harbor before my friend Katie started volunteering there while we were both living in Miami. I went to visit her while she was feeding the birds and I started to realize what a special place it was. I never took the plunge cleaning cages and feeding the birds, but I knew I wanted to get involved in some way. Katie asked me to help plan Pelican Harbor's Annual Pelican Party, and that is when I began to know the amazing people who work at the non-profit. The employees and volunteers are so committed not only to helping injured birds in the Miami-Dade Area but working to make sure these migratory birds are able to complete their journey along the Eastern Seaboard and beyond. They also work to educate people on these magnificent birds. Over the past few years I have not only volunteered with the organization, but my husband and I have donated money and I am currently helping them with finding grants and funding so they can continue their important work! I recommend anyone living or traveling to Miami to put the Seabird Station on their list of places to check out, you will leave changed!
