Review for Pug Hearts Houston Pug Rescue, Alvin, TX, USA
One of the items on my bucket list was to adopt a rescue that really needed us. In searching for a pug rescue, I found Pughearts of Houston. We had a 9 year old pug and wanted a companion for him, so we joined the FaceBook group, to check things out before applying to adopt. I was amazed at the number of pugs and pug mixes available for adoption - all ages, sizes and conditions. There were even a couple that weren't pugs, but were taken in as they had been companions to a pug that was rescued.
It didn't take long to realize that the organizations' catchphrase, "any pug, at any age, in any condition, at any time" were not just words. This amazing network of dedicated volunteers move heaven and earth to follow through on their promises. We applied in July 2017, were quickly approved and then we took our time to find the pug who needed us. Fast forward to April 2018 when Merida came into our home. She had come into our hearts many months before when she was rescued, near death from starvation. She was provided with medical treatments to address all the complications from starvation, spayed and treated for severe heartworms. Medical treatment alone was not enough; she was also loved back to health in the process. We watched her progress with amazement - we couldn't believe that an animal so near death could survive. Merida not only survived, she has thrived.
And she continues to thrive with us and her pug brother, Willie. With all of our love and good intentions we would not have had the knowledge to care for her as she was when she was found in December 2017, nor could we have afforded the cost of rehabilitating her on our own. It took an organization, a village if you will, to give her the life she deserves. While this story is astounding to me, it is just one story of the over 2000 pugs who have found new lives through Pughearts of Houston.
We support this work with our charitable donations, and encourage and amuse other pug parents and adopters with posts and stories about Merida. The posts by others also add to our knowledge base of how to care for our pet family members. We are now part of this village and it enriches our lives on a daily basis.
