I see my better half (pastelro) posted our Halloween story, and the rest, as they say, is history. I plan our family’s Thanksgiving dinner to be able to volunteer at the Beacon House. The Beacon House is hope— not only for the men courageous enough to transform their lives and recover from the disease of addiction – it serves as a model of hope for us all. Attorney and civil rights leader, Mahatma Gandhi, said, “You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.” He also said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” These men are the personification of faith in humanity and the positive impact of change in our world. They do so much for the community beyond the boundaries of San Pedro, CA that it is my honor and privilege that these men allow me to volunteer and support them any way I can. I am in healthcare, and I believe that the secret to the Beacon House’s success is the fact that it does not accept any financial assistance from a health plan. Theirs is not a cookie cutter formula. It is a true conversion. It is awe inspiring seeing these men grow and become the man each is intended to be in God’s divine grace. They each encourage me to be a better version of myself just by being themselves. Please come to a Bistro and experience it yourself. It will change your life for the better!
