Review for HandReach, East Falmouth, MA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I began working for HandReach on January 25, 2010 as an assistant and "ball-catcher" to the Executive Director, Dr. Brecken Chinn Swartz. Throughout my employment, I have been amazed by the kindness of our donors, the vision of our management team, and also, unfortunetly, by the lack of funding for so extraordinary and worth a cause. The only thing HandReach needs to become the next Operation Smile or SmileTrain is funding that will allow this charity to expand to the next level: funding for infrastructure, for technology, and for program implementation.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

In a matter of three months, HandReach has organized China's first burn camp/conference, taking place this July 1st through 14th. HandReach was able to achieve in a few short months what takes some charities all year, impressive considering its size.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

focus more on several grantwriting campaigns. A secure flow of money should be coming in every month to secure market-rate payment for employees, which HandReach needs in order to acheive growth and its maximum potential.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The opportunity to learn and grow, both personally and professionally.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Kind, dedicated, and visionary.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Change the world.

Ways to make it better...

The charity could afford to provide it's employees market rates and benefits.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

The lack of funding.

One thing I'd also say is that...

the challenge of growing a charity from one run out of a home office, earning less than $50,000 per year to a multi-million dollar non-profit is not indomitable and one I am positive HandReach will meet.

How frequently have you been involved with the organization?

About every week

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

Role:  Volunteer & Program Coordinator: I spent 5 months trying to improve the organizational structure or the charity.
