Review for The Institute for Exercise Medicine and Prevention, St. Paul, MN, USA
The Institute for Exercise Medicine and Prevention is also known as I.EM.PHIT. I volunteered with this organization from November 2009 to February 2010 as a receptionist. They had just opened their doors and had no funds to hire someone at the front desk. As a receptionist I met with children, adolescents and adults who were referred to the clinic for physical and nutritional guidance in a medical setting. The staff physiologists and the physicians overseeing the patients care very much about giving people with chronic medical conditions the tools and motivation needed to improve their health and wellbeing.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
...every day I see a patient smile and say they can breathe better, run faster, jump higher and/or feel better than they did before. ...when patients have a post test and compare where they were when they started the program.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
...find some way to provide more staff for patients and their needs.
What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...
Learning that I can make changes in my own habits and take control of my environment to better myself.
The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...
...very dedicated to educating patients in nutrition and physical exercise to improve their health. Staff and volunteers also work extensively with guardians and parents to change their whole family lifestyle.
If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...
...bring this effective and motivational program to every school, hospital and organization in communities across the nation.
Ways to make it better...
...the organization would have been established and all the "kinks" worked out.
In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...
...financial (ie: working through medical insurance red tape to get patients covered, current medical reimbursement does not cover the costs and getting grants and donations necessary to keep this program afloat.
One thing I'd also say is that...
...the "Let's Move" program started by First Lady, Michelle Obama, is unaware of the IEMPHIT protocol and needs to be informed this program is working!
