Can’t say enough about Mission Guatemala! They are immersed in their community working alongside their Mayan friends to meet medical, educational and social/emotional needs. They have the ability to pivot on a moment’s notice to meet developing needs. When their Mayan construction crew was stopped in their tracks, for example, they taught them to sew & helped make the PPE that wasn’t getting to local clinics and Urgent Cares. Families still got fed. They don’t determine community needs…they listen and respond to the community. They are seen as vital to the community as a result of investing in relationships first and foremost. It is a model other non-profits ought take a look at. I love Mission Guatemala…can you tell? I always receive more than I give!

If you are looking for a way to serve, go no further than Mission Guatemala. Their model is centered on justice,not charity. They listen first to the needs of the community & thenwork out the details with the Mayan community so they have some skin in the game. They employ and support local Mayans in numerous ways. Most of all, even though you are usually working side by side on a construction project with their Mayan crew the focus is on relationships. I cry every time I leave. This is how Godmeans for ya to be...in community with one another. The food, the accommodations atRiver House and the planned activities on the non work days plus some cultural activities they bring in at night truly give you an overview of the Mayanculture.
