I have volunteered twice at Soi Dog Foundation in Phuket. Best experience ever! As a volunteer, your main task is to socialize the dogs, including taking them for walks. Some of the dogs are shy and not yet ready to go for walks, but just sitting with them helps them to learn that people do not mean them harm and slowly over time they learn to trust.

You can also spend time with the cats at the shelter.

Everything at the shelter is well-organized and the staff is very friendly and helpful.

I think Soi Dog Foundation is amazing. They are working tirelessly to improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Thailand and other Asian countries. Their work include sterilization- and vaccination programmes, medical treatment of sick or injured animals and adoption programmes. Soi Dog Foundation is also working towards ending the gruesome dog meat trade in Asia.

I highly recommend donating to support Soi Dog Foundation, adopting a dog/cat, or to volunteer at the shelter in Phuket!
